TRAINING IN AUSTRIA - CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Noored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting a call for participants for a Training Course called MPAE for Young People (Media and Political Awareness in the context of EMploymentwhich will take place in 07th until 14th July 2013 in Villach, Austria.

Media consumption of young people is increasing all the time. Already the youngest ones are spending a lot of time in front of the TV, Computer, and Smartphone etc. Not only companies and NGOs are using this type of media but political parties are also making more and more use of it e.g. on Facebook. Young citizens are heavily influenced by and often get most of their opinions from the media. If we want to have informed young citizens who are aware of all the threats coming with this new media we have to approach this issue in a professional way. Young people are more willing to accept what is presented by the media if they do not think critically about phrases and ideas used – especially around election time. Youth unemployment is an important topic for political parties and the media has a strong influence on people’s perception - especially in European Union countries with economic problems. That reality opens up some questions: Are political parties able to really deal with these problems or are they just trying to get voters? How can you deal with the flood of new media? How can young people deal with all the images, ideas, information, opinions, propaganda etc. coming from this new media?

MPAE for Young People is a training course for youth workers/trainers to help them respond to issues concerning the media and political awareness - especially in the context of youth unemployment. We will take a creative approach on different levels that will improve opportunities for young people to be more active citizens and also be more active in the labour market. We will work on case studies and other examples of creative methods used in different situations. We will work together on improving our competences so we can raise young people’s awareness and motivate them to use their creativity to achieve sustainable and desirable employment and active participation in democracy.

This event will bring together 24 participants from European Member states. The event will be held in English. There are 2 vacancies available and participants should have minimum 18 years old.

The Youth in Action programme will cover 100% of the accommodation, food and activities and will reimburse the participants with 70% of the travel costs. There will be a participation fee of 50 Eur. per participant.
